SEO Coaching Review: SEO On Tap with Duo Collective

Today, I want to highlight some of my favorite people in my business network – Abbey and Courtney at Duo Collective! I met Abbey and Courtney through a client referral about a year and a half into my entrepreneurship journey. I was originally hired to help with emails and blogging. They were launching their SEO coaching program and offered to have me join. I jumped at the chance to learn something new that could grow my business and skills.

Prior SEO Knowledge

I had very little SEO knowledge before taking their SEO coaching course. I knew the basics (AKA what the Yoast plug-in told me was correct). I basically relied on that to tell me if I optimized a blog well. And I think that’s fine for beginners or people who don’t offer SEO services. You get the advice you need and you’re good to go.

But I was trying to position myself as an expert in copywriting. And a big part of that job is making sure my client’s websites were appearing on Google. Relying on Yoast wasn’t cutting it. I needed to understand WHY those were the recommendations Yoast was giving me and have the insight and expertise to take the suggestion or not. 

I also didn’t know how to perform keyword research. I was taking a term from the blog title I made up and using that as my keyword. I wasn’t doing any research or understanding the strategy behind picking a keyword for a blog.

There were so many SEO tools I learned how to use in this program. I had no idea some of these even existed but now have become part of my processes for client work. 

• Ubersuggest: Used for keyword research and monitoring keyword rankings.
• Google Search Console: To manually request indexing and see which pages have been approved by Google.
• Google Analytics: View all website traffic and high/low-performing pages.
• PageSpeed Insights: See how quickly your website loads and any issues with site speed. 
• Tinify: Compress image file sizes without sacrificing quality.
• Google Business Profile: Get listed in local searches.

Abbey also gave other recommendations for SEO tools to do keyword research, help you write metadata, and compress images. There’s so much out there to help you improve your SEO!

SEO Coaching Outcome

After taking Duo’s SEO coaching course in 2022, I increased my blog writing pricing by 20% because I could offer better service to my clients. This was the first price increase I had ever done, so it was a little scary! With my new skills, I definitely could have increased my pricing more but I was happy with this bump at the time.

By the time I relaunched my business in 2024, I had really developed my SEO understanding and expertise. I chose to focus solely on blogging in my new packages. When I took the course in 2022, Abbey was teaching it live. It took us six weeks to get through the content. Now that it’s self-paced, you could binge it on a weekend if you want! But remember, it takes time to learn SEO. I learned a TON during the SEO coaching program, but it still took me a few months to practice my skills and feel confident educating my audience and including SEO in my packages.

Can I learn SEO on my own?
