Today, I want to highlight some of my favorite people in my business network – Abbey and Courtney at Duo Collective! I met Abbey and Courtney through a client referral about a year and a half into my entrepreneurship journey. I was originally hired to help with emails and blogging. I had very little SEO knowledge before taking their SEO coaching course. I knew the basics (AKA what the Yoast plug-in told me was correct). I basically relied on that to tell me if I optimized a blog well. And I think that’s fine for beginners or people who don’t offer SEO services. You get the advice you need and you’re good to go.
But I was trying to position myself as an expert in copywriting. And a big part of that job is making sure my client’s websites were appearing on Google. Relying on Yoast wasn’t cutting it. I needed to understand WHY those were the recommendations Yoast was giving me and have the insight and expertise to take the suggestion or not.
I also didn’t know how to perform keyword research. I was taking a term from the blog title I made up and using that as my keyword. I wasn’t doing any research or understanding the strategy behind picking a keyword for a blog.
