16 Places to Find Blog Topics to Write About

Blogging

People overthink the first step of blogging – figuring out blog topics to write about. They don’t know where to start or how to find “good” blog ideas. There are a lot of places I source blog ideas for myself and my clients. There are tons of benefits of a blog strategy, so don’t let not knowing what to write about stop you from getting started.

I talked to Abbey and Court at Duo Collective about this topic! Take a listen to the episode here:

1. Keyword Research

Doing keyword research can give you tons of blog topics to write about! My favorite tool is Ubersuggest, but there are others out there like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or SEMrush, that do similar things.

In Ubersuggest, you can view keywords you already rank for in the Keyword Overview section. If you aren’t already targeting that term on a page, you can write a blog targeting it to earn even more website traffic for that keyword.

You can also navigate to the Keyword Ideas section and type in terms you might want to write about. It not only gives you the metrics for the terms you typed in but many other keyword ideas related to it. As you can see in the screenshot, you can view suggestions, related terms, questions, prepositions, and comparisons. These are all keywords that can spark ideas for blog topics to write about.

2. Audience Feedback

Listen to your audience! They can give you so much insight into what they want to learn more about and what they’re confused about. These are the best blog topic ideas because they directly relate to what your audience is interested in.

3. Client Questions

Pay attention to questions and feedback from your clients. This can come from emails, social media interactions, or new lead inquiries. The questions your clients or leads ask can be valuable pieces of content for you. Instead of answering the same questions all the time, you can send them to your very in-depth blog article 😉

4. Social Media

Social media can be a great tool for finding trending topics, discussions, and common questions. Use hashtags and follow industry influencers to see what topics your audience is interested in. You can also conduct surveys or polls with your audience to understand their interests and pain points. I love doing this on Instagram stories

5. Competitors

I actively try NOT to look at my competitor’s content because I’m literally terrified of accidentally copying something they put out thinking it was my own idea 😅 But I do think it can sometimes be useful to see what your competitors are writing about. I never recommend copying them, but their content might spark an idea for you.

6. Online Communities

Online communities like Quora have so much information on what questions and topics people are interested in. A lot of people will ask questions and have conversations on these platforms, which you can use as blog topic inspiration.

7. Personal Experiences

Share your own experiences as a business owner. Personal insights can be very engaging for readers because people relate to people and their stories. Tell stories of your struggles, lessons, and successes.

8. Case Studies

Write about your experience and success helping your clients. Think about how many clients you’ve worked with and the results you’ve gotten for them. Write case studies to use as blog content and social proof for future clients to see.

9. Books

Reading business books related to your industry can provide insights and inspire new blog topics to write about. You could even write a review of the book. Just be sure to always quote the source you’re sharing ideas from. These are my top business book recommendations!

10. Podcasts

Listening to industry podcasts can spark ideas for blog topics to write about. Jenna Kutcher’s Gold Digger podcast has a wealth of knowledge related to entrepreneurship and marketing. I also love the Duo on Air podcast – I always learn a lot from the episodes!

11. Webinars

Webinars always give me new perspectives and topic ideas. I especially love Neil Patel’s SEO webinars. Not only do I learn something that helps my clients and improves my work, but I can share what I learned with other entrepreneurs to help them in their businesses.

12. People Also Ask Section of Google

This is such a hack! Type something related to your business into Google and look at the People Also Ask section. This gives you tons of topic ideas and can even help you structure a blog outline. Use the questions people are actually searching for to write a blog.

13. ChatGPT

ChatGPT and other AI tools can help you with blog topics to write about. You might have to finagle it a bit to get some specific topic ideas, but it can spark ideas for you. It helps to give it the services you provide and the audience you’re targeting before asking for blog topic ideas.

14. Hot Topics

Listen to what’s going on in your industry and write your opinions about it. An example is when AI was available to the public in November 2022. Several business owners wrote their opinions on ChatGPT and the positive/negative sides of it. Websites like Google News, Feedly, or specific industry publications can inspire blog topics to write about.

15. Repurpose Content

Repurpose some of your other content into blog posts. I usually look at my well-performing social posts to find blog content. Some clients also film videos or podcasts that I can repurpose into blog content. Sometimes it’s as easy as using what you already have!

16. Your Own Expertise!

You know your business and audience best! I’m sure you can come up with dozens of ideas if you sit down and brainstorm. From there, you can do keyword research to justify your blog ideas.

So, which one are you going to try first? They can be so helpful when you’re tired of wracking your brain to think of blog topics to write about.
