The 10 Best Blogging Tools for Small Business Owners

Blogging

When it comes to blogging, the right tools can make all the difference. Blogging requires more than just good writing. It takes strategy, organization, and the right support.

I use these ten blogging tools literally every single week to streamline my workflow and keep everything organized. I write anywhere from 3 to 8 blogs a week for various clients, so I need to keep everything straight.

Even if you’re just writing one blog a month for yourself, these blogging tools will be lifesavers.

The 10 Best Blogging Tools for Small Business Owners

Blogging Tools For Planning

Before you start writing, you have some planning to do! This involves finding topic ideas, planning your content, and doing keyword research.

I don’t have a single tool I use for finding good topics, so here are a ton of tools and ideas!

Airtable

I use Airtable as my content calendar. I keep all my topic ideas, keywords, and links within Airtable. It’s my one-stop shop for all my content—I even use a version of the template for my social media posts and emails.

I also use this content calendar to get approval on my clients’ drafts before publishing. No more back and forth via email! They can access it anytime to add new ideas, view progress, and directly access blog links.

Ubersuggest

Ubersuggest is my favorite tool for keyword research. The interface is easy to use, and I like the way the data is shown. It makes everything easy to understand.

I always conduct keyword research before writing, so I know what I’m targeting and ranking for as I create the content. It makes editing and optimization easier later on.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Ubersuggest for keyword research.

Blogging Tools For Writing

Now it’s time to write! I have some go-to tools to help me write blogs for myself and clients.

ChatGPT

Yes… I use ChatGPT to help me OUTLINE blogs, not write them. I used to absolutely despise AI tools, but I can admit that it has some good ideas that I might not have thought to talk about. I work with a variety of clients in different industries, and I can’t be an expert in everything. I look at AI as an assistant I can brainstorm with.

Google Docs

I write all my drafts in Google Docs. It’s the best option for collaboration, reviews, and feedback.

Blogging Tools For Editing

After you have your draft ready, it’s time to edit it. You’re looking for grammar and spelling mistakes that you missed while writing and optimizing for keywords.

Grammarly

I use Grammarly to check for spelling and grammar. It will catch mistakes and make suggestions for clarity. With the premium version, which I have, Grammarly will also make suggestions for engagement and delivery tone.

I don’t always accept the recommendations it makes. It doesn’t really like brand voice—it cares more about clarity, which is good sometimes, but I also want my brand voice to come through the copy.

Yoast

The Yoast plug-in in WordPress is a great way to double-check how well your blog is optimized for search engines. Enter your target keyword, and it will show areas you optimized well and suggestions for improvement.

Unfortunately, if you don’t use WordPress for blogging, you won’t be able to utilize this plug-in.

Here’s how you can install it in WordPress.

Blogging Tools For Promoting

A crucial yet often overlooked step in blogging is promoting it. SEO is a great way to get new eyes on your blog, but you should do some work too, including sharing it with your email list and social media followers.

Tailwind

Tailwind is the platform I use to schedule my Instagram and Pinterest posts. It’s very user-friendly and makes batching content super easy. It helps me make sure my followers know about every new blog I publish.

Flodesk

I use Flodesk for my email marketing. I include a link to my new blog in my newsletter every week. They’re the first to be notified of new blogs I publish!

Blogging Tools for Analysis

We can’t forget about analyzing how well our efforts are paying off! These two Google tools are my go-tos.

Google Analytics (GA4)

Google Analytics looks at your website as a whole and how users interact with it. You can narrow it down to look only at your blogs, though.

Google Analytics shows you where your traffic is coming from:

  • Direct (typing the URL into the search and going directly to the website)
  • Organic search
  • Organic social
  • Referral (backlinks)

I like to see organic search driving the most or second-most amount of traffic.

In Google Analytics, you can also see:

  • How many people are visiting your blog
  • Total views per blog post
  • How long users stay on the page (the longer, the better!)
  • Links that were clicked within your blogs

It’s helpful to view trends over time to see if you see dips or increases in traffic seasonally.

Google Search Console (GSC)

Google Search Console tracks how your blog performs in Google search results, specifically.

You can see:

  • How many times have people clicked on your blog from Google
  • How often does your blog appear in search results
  • Where your blog ranks in search results for specific queries
  • What search terms bring users to your blog, and what page do they land on

I really like GSC because it gives clear data on each blog post. This is also where you can manually request indexing if a blog hasn’t been approved for search yet.

These tools can work together—use GSC to find which keywords drive traffic, then check GA4 to see how engaged those visitors are.

BONUS: I also use Ubersuggest for analysis!

Start Using These Blogging Tools

These are the blogging tools I use several times a week to complete blogs from start to finish—from planning and writing to editing, promoting, and analyzing results.

I hope they help you in your blogging journey!

FAQs About Blogging Tools

Which platform is best for blogging for beginners?

I prefer WordPress connected with Showit. The design is stored in Showit, and the content is stored in WordPress. You can have a beautifully designed website with the optimization features WordPress and Yoast can offer.

Is blogging outdated?

Nope! Even with AI in search, blogs are still a powerful marketing strategy. AI uses the content we create to develop answers to queries. It literally NEEDS us to create high-quality, valuable content. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Why do most bloggers fail?

Blogs fail because business owners have unrealistic expectations, don’t know how to optimize their blogs for search engines, aren’t consistent with their efforts, or aren’t writing for their audience.
