Sparking Creativity in a Busy Season

7 Ways to Get That Creative Spark Back in a Busy Season

Entrepreneurship

Busy seasons are the best but the worst, right? You’re thankful for all the work and growth, but also feel like you need to come up for air, and you don’t have that creative spark anymore.

I know you don’t have time to add a bunch of things to your plate. Between client work, marketing your business, spending time with your family, and remembering to eat, sleep, and breathe, you’re just trying to survive.

Honestly, I’m honored that you’re reading this blog amidst your busy season.

So, while you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, here are some ways you can stay in that creative space and keep feeling excited about your business and work.

get a creative spark

1. Change Your Environment

A simple change in your environment can spark new ideas and introduce new energy to your workday. You could go to a coffee shop, visit the library, or simply add mood lighting or a new plant to your home office.

2. Work With Your Hands

This is why I love crafting. I spend so much time at my computer that I love to use my free time to create something with my hands. Whether it’s crafting, doodling, gardening, baking, or doing a puzzle, find an activity to accomplish with your own two hands.

3. Physical Movement

A quick walk outside, 5 minutes of stretching, or a short workout can clear your mind and get those creative juices flowing. I typically start my day with a workout to get in the right mindset first thing in the morning. When it’s nice out, I love going on walks after work.

4. Meditation

I have to admit that traditional meditation isn’t my favorite… but I do enjoy doing my Bible study in the morning or right after work. It centers me and calms my mind, which I suppose is a form of meditation!

5. Collaborate and Brainstorm

I love strategy calls with my blog writing clients because we bounce ideas back and forth, and I feel so excited about their content afterward. I want to get started right away! Talking things out with someone else can spark creativity and give you new ideas.

6. Stop Waiting for Free Time

Honestly, you probably won’t get any free time for a while in a busy season. Creativity doesn’t require long, uninterrupted blocks. Even a few minutes of creativity in your day can help you stay motivated and inspired.

7. Create Before You Consume

I honestly struggle with this one. I get sucked into scrolling on social media when I could spend time creating something new. I also tend to compare myself to what I see on social media, and it dampens my creativity.

Your Creativity Isn’t Gone—It’s Just Quiet

You might feel like you’re drowning in work and your creativity is on a deadline. It’s okay to meet yourself where you are. Creativity comes in season, too. Make space to invite creativity back in, even in the busy day-to-day.

FAQs About a Creative Spark

Why does my creative spark disappear during busy seasons?

When your schedule is full, your brain prioritizes efficiency and survival over creativity. Stress and decision fatigue can quiet creative thinking, even if you’re still capable of great ideas.

Is it normal to feel less creative sometimes?

Yes! It’s completely normal. Creativity moves in cycles, just like energy and motivation. A busy season doesn’t mean you’ve lost your creativity—it usually means your brain needs different support right now.

How do I get my creative spark back when I don’t have much time?

Start small. Short creative rituals, changing your environment, or creating without pressure can help reignite creativity. You don’t need more time—you need fewer expectations.

Can burnout affect creativity?

Absolutely! I’ve experienced this myself. Burnout often shows up as mental fog, a lack of inspiration, or a feeling of disconnection from your work. Rest and recovery are often the fastest way to bring creativity back.

Should I push through or take a break when I feel stuck creatively?

It depends. If you feel blocked but energized, gentle structure can help. If you feel exhausted or resentful, rest is usually the better choice. Creativity thrives when pressure eases.

How long does it take to feel creative again?

There’s no set timeline. Some people feel a shift in a single day, while others need weeks of reduced pressure or rest. Consistency with small habits tends to work better than forcing breakthroughs.

Can routines help with creativity, or do they make it worse?

Simple routines often help creativity by reducing decision fatigue. When your brain knows when and how you’ll create, it has more space for ideas instead of logistics.
