Is a Blog Marketing Strategy Right for Your Business?

Blogging

I think you know what I’m going to say… DUH! But honestly though, I believe any business can benefit from a blog. My clients and I have seen great success in publishing consistent, high-quality blogs. Don’t just take my word for it. Let’s talk about why a blog marketing strategy is right for your business and how to decide if now is the right time to commit.

Understanding Blog Marketing Strategy

Blog marketing involves producing high-quality, relevant, and engaging blog posts that provide value to your target audience. Creating and sharing valuable content on a blog attracts, engages, and converts readers into clients. It’s a key part of your holistic digital marketing strategy.

There are tons of benefits to a blog marketing strategy. This blog goes into detail about it, but here’s a brief overview of some of the benefits you’re likely to see from maintaining a blog:

  • Improved keyword rankings
  • More website traffic
  • Have more content to repurpose
  • Educate your audience
  • Establish credibility
  • Expand brand visibility
  • Engage clients
  • Improve lead generation
  • Opportunity for affiliate income

Assess Your Business Needs

A blog marketing strategy should align with your overall business strategy and goals. Luckily, it hits a lot of goals business owners have.

  • I want more website traffic: Blogs improve how highly you rank for certain keywords, which drives more qualified traffic to your website.
  • I want more contact form submissions: With more qualified traffic, the right people are finding your website. They’re interested in your services.
  • I want to be seen as an expert: Blogs allow you to show off your expertise and thought leadership.
  • I want to educate my clients: Written articles give your audience the answers they’ve been searching for.
  • I want content creation to be easier: Blogs give you tons of opportunities to repurpose onto other platforms.
  • I want to retain clients: Publishing blogs regularly helps you stay top-of-mind.
  • I want to drive conversions: Blogs can guide people through the buyer’s journey, from awareness to booking.

A well-executed blog can support a wide range of business goals. By aligning blog content with your business goals, you can maximize the impact of your blog marketing strategy.

Evaluate Resources and Capabilities

The key to a successful blog marketing strategy is to stay consistent with it. I know it can be hard to carve out time to research, write, and post blogs. Pick a schedule that works for you. Ideally, it should be once a week. Once a month is the minimum. Just remember – the more high-quality content you put out, the more you’ll see the benefits of your strategy.

Next, think about whether you or someone on your team has the necessary writing, SEO, and marketing skills to handle maintaining your blog. Not to mention, do you have the time to maintain a blog content schedule

If not, you can outsource it. For example, in my blog writing package, I do everything it takes to have a successful blog marketing strategy. From researching, writing, optimizing, publishing, and measuring, my clients are 99% hands-off.

Blogging is a long-term strategy. You probably won’t see much results after publishing your first post, but the strategy builds upon itself. The more content you have, the more chances you have to rank on search engines for new keywords. Blogging is a time commitment, but it’s so worth it.

Measure Success

Once you’ve implemented a blog strategy, you need to measure the success of your efforts. Gotta make sure it’s paying off! I look at analytics every quarter. Any more than that and I don’t typically see significant results. As I said, blogging is a long-term strategy, so it can take some time to see results.

These are some key metrics to pay attention to:

  • Traffic to your website: You should see an increase in the number of users on your website, as well as how long they stay on your site.
  • Keyword ranking: Each blog targets one new keyword so by blogging, you should be ranking for more keywords and be higher in the search results for each term.
  • Conversions: By adding strong CTAs throughout your blogs, you can increase your conversions.
  • Audience feedback: Consider how people are receiving your content – do they like it? Have you received any comments or questions?

Luckily, there are some tools you can use to track and analyze blog performance. These are my favorites:

  • Ubersuggest: Shows keyword rankings and monthly organic traffic.
  • Google Search Console: Tells you whether or not your blog has been indexed and is appearing on Google.

Part of a blog marketing strategy is regularly updating and optimizing your blog content. The blogs will live on the Internet forever, but you can always tweak them to keep them relevant. Check old blogs for outdated stats, tips, etc. SEO algorithms change all the time so it’s worthwhile to update blogs after a core algorithm update

Time to Commit!
