I infuse personality and SEO to get you the blog results you've been looking for. Want to learn about how we can work together?
I posted a poll on my Instagram story this week about how I was behind on batching content… so I let you pick my blog for the week! I love hearing your feedback and ideas so maybe I’ll do this again! It’s embarrassingly often that I’m behind on my own content 😅 but I still commit to posting a blog every Friday!
The blog topic you picked was myths about blogging. Maybe you still need to be convinced that blogging is an effective strategy. Maybe you want some tea. Maybe you randomly selected that answer on my poll. IDK, but here we are.
I’ve wanted to discuss this topic for a while. I think there are some misconceptions and myths about blogging. How effective is it? Is it worth my time? What kind of results can I see from my efforts?
I get it – your time is valuable and you want to make the most of your marketing efforts. So let me address a few myths about blogging to convince you why it’s worth doing for your business.
Let’s start this blog off hot – this is one of the most common myths about blogging that I hear. Blogging is NOT dead. As long as people need to search for information, blogging can be a successful content strategy. Blogging will continue to evolve with the introduction of AI, but it still remains relevant.
Blogging can work for anyone with a website. You might not want to target super competitive keywords because you would be competing for rankings next to those big brands. Keywords with low to medium competition are much easier for small businesses to rank for.
You don’t have to be a professional or perfect writer to blog. The most important thing is to be yourself and let your personality shine. You want people to connect with you when they read your blog. While a spelling mistake might stick out to me as a writer, your audience might find it relatable. Of course, there are tools out there to help you avoid small mistakes like that! My point is that you don’t have to be perfect to write and publish a blog.
The main goal of blogging is to drive qualified traffic to your website (people who are actually interested in your offers.) The more people you get on your website, the more chances you have of converting them into customers.
Plus, blogs are a great way to promote your affiliate links. When you mention a product or service in a blog, you can add your affiliate link or code and earn a commission when someone purchases from your referral. Even if it’s a small commission, your blog still earned you a new sale!
See where your imagination takes you! Anyone can come up with blog ideas. If you need a place to start, check out this blog with 16 places to find inspiration. When brainstorming blog topics, think about what your audience should know about your business or services and what you can educate them on. As an example, this blog about tags vs. categories educates my audience on which is best for their business.
I will agree that blogging takes longer than other forms of content creation. BUT it’s also the best form of content to repurpose for other platforms, reducing the amount of time it takes to create other content. It also helps me to have a backlog of content ideas and a schedule ready to go so I don’t sit down and go, “Soooo what am I writing about today?” Streamline the content creation process by already knowing what you’re going to write about before you sit down to do it.
Blogs still drive traffic to your website. Guess where that traffic comes from. HUMANS. Humans are the ones coming from search engines to read your blogs and view your services. Search engines get them there, but humans are the ones exploring your website. I highly doubt everyone fully reads your blogs, but they at least skim it, and that’s a win in my book.
Let me put it this way – the more you blog, the more chances you have of ranking for new keywords on search engines. BUT these have to be high-quality blogs. If you’re cranking out blogs, they probably aren’t the highest quality (ahem, looking at you, AI). Instead, post consistent, high-quality blogs. Weekly blogs are best, but if you can only do it once a month, that works, too! Stay consistent with it and you’ll see results.
Also, if you choose the right keyword, optimize the post really well, and choose a topic your audience is interested in, you can earn tons of traffic from just that one post. You never know if your next post will go viral.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again -a blog strategy can be for ANY business! Most businesses these days have an online presence, even if they are a brick and mortar store. If you have a website, you can have a blog.
We all freak out when Instagram is down for a few hours, so what would happen if social media went away permanently? You don’t own Instagram and it very well could be shut down someday. All your followers, conversations, and leads would be gone. POOF.
Your website, on the other hand, is yours. You own it. You are the one to decide if it goes poof. That’s why I believe you should invest time into your website (through blogging) versus social media. Social media is a secondary marketing source, while your website is your home base. It’s where you ultimately want your audience to go to learn more about you and your services and to connect with you.
Wouldn’t that be nice? But no, success does not happen overnight. It takes time for SEO to kick in and search engines to trust you. However, the more high-quality content you post, the more Google starts to learn about your business. And when Google knows you, it starts to trust you. When it trusts you, it will send new people your way more often. This trust takes time – it’s normal not to see significant results after a few months of blogging.
By debunking these myths about blogging, I hope you feel motivated to start blogging for your business. I could go on and on about the benefits of blogging.
